Social Media Marketing- Quick Tips

social media marketing quick tips

Most of us know by now that there are far too many things to learn in social media to put it all into one article or even into one book. However, if you’re new to the world of marketing via social channels, you have to start somewhere. Learning some basic dos and don’ts through this quick tips will get you started on the right foot as you explore and learn more.

Social Media Marketing Dos

Engage Your Audience: This is not another advertising channel. Avoid broadcasting and instead, engage your audience in conversation.

Create a Plan: You should create a clear social media strategy. This includes what you will post and when as well as what should get removed (abuse, spam, troll comments, advertising?)

Monitor Your Brand: You should monitor your brand’s entire social media presence. This means what is being said on your networks as well as what others are saying on theirs about you. Social media channels, news feeds, blogs and forums are all sources for monitoring.

Keep it Real: Customers and visitors can trust your brand when they know who is standing behind it. Be real and genuine and they will respect you for it and gain trust in your brand.

Social Media Marketing Don’ts

Don’t Think of it like a Campaign: There is no end date to your social media activities. This is not a campaign but rather a long-term process to engage your fans and improve your brand reputation.

Don’t Lie: It sounds obvious but it needs to be said. Leaving out parts of the truth is typically also seen as a lie.

Don’t Talk Negatively about Others: When you put down your competitors or talk badly about anyone on your networks, you’re giving your brand a reputation. Keep it positive or say nothing of it at all.

Don’t Censor User Content: I’ve written about this before but the truth still stands; users need to feel like they can be open and honest on your pages and networks. Censoring user content (aside from spam or hate speech) can create a whole new batch of problems for you. People will get the impression you block anything that is not positive.
